Just like many of our readers, our IT Brides love DIY projects! This is just one of many DIY projects to come from our Fabulous IT Brides. We’d love to hear from you if you are doing something similar or if this has inspired you in your own planning!
From Jacqueline:
Below are some pictures of the bow tie napkin project that I am working on. The obstacle with this design is I have to make and supply 140 napkin rings. My idea was to buy ribbon and then use skor tape, snaps, or velcro to create a napkin ring but I still have to test out what is most cost effective and durable. The nice thing about living in Manhattan is that I work right in the center of the garment/fashion district where you can find any type of ribbon, trimming, sowing supplies, fabric etc you could dream of. I found these three ribbons below at MJ Trimmings that all looked great with the bow tie napkin. I think I am going to go with the gray stripe one—it looks a little classier and goes nicely with the gray napkin.
DIY Napkin Rings for Bow Tie Napkins
What you need:
140 5 inch strips of ribbon for the napkin ring (I am estimating 140 people for my wedding)
Hot glue gun
2 yards of Velcro (I got this for 6.99 at a fabric store)
Scissors
20 X 20 napkin
Measure tape/ruler
Patience
Instructions:
To make the napkin into a bow tie shape I just followed this blog:
To make the napkin rings you need to cut 5 inch strips of however many rings you will need.
You also want to cut Velcro into small pieces-about ½ an inch squares.
Once you have all your Velcro cut you want to take a strip and lay it out with the print on the top. I glued the rough side of the Velcro on the top and then I flip it over and glued the soft side of Velcro on the bottom. Once the Velcro is glued in place I let it dry for a few minutes. Then you can fold the loop to make your napkin ring!
Simone - Love the grey one! And the pink stripes too!
